How to Validate a Business Idea Without Spending Money

You do not need ad budget to validate a business idea. Here is the zero-budget validation playbook: interviews, communities, and hand-built demand tests.

Bootstrapped founders do not have $2,000 for validation ads. Good news: the most reliable validation signals cost nothing but time. Here is the zero-budget playbook.

1. Hunt for existing conversations

Search Reddit, X, Indie Hackers, and niche Slack communities for the problem in the customer's language. If you find 20+ threads over the last year, the problem is real and the audience is reachable for free.

2. Post the problem, not the pitch

In a relevant community, share the problem you are exploring and ask how people handle it today. You will get free interviews and pre-warm your first users at the same time.

3. Build a manual version

Deliver the outcome by hand for the first 5-10 customers — spreadsheets, DMs, Zoom calls. If people pay you $50 to do it manually, they will pay $20/month when you automate it.

4. Sell a waitlist with skin in the game

A free email waitlist is a weak signal. A $9 refundable pre-order is a strong one. Even 20 pre-orders is enough to justify a first build.

5. Use free tools for the demand test

A Carrd landing page, a Beehiiv form, and a Reddit post cost nothing. Track visits and sign-ups. Above 10% conversion on warm traffic is your green light.

Forge AI generates all of the above — the landing copy, the Reddit outreach, and the manual-mode workflow — from your one-line idea.
